Florida taxpayers, you’re about to get fleeced on Cap and Trade

The more government does, the less we taxpayers have. The latest grab for power targets the energy industry, as Congress pushes HR 2454 towards passage. A cheerleader for the bill, Rep. Rick Boucher (D-Va.), who’s been in Congress for 14 terms, repeatedly stated on C-SPAN (Thursday) the Cap and Trade legislation will cost consumers between $77-111 a year. He also stated there are no new taxes in the bill.

I’ve lived long enough to distrust most politicians when it comes to money, and Boucher is no exception. Highly regarded organizations like The Tax Foundation say the legislation will cost $1,218 per household. I’ve done expanded commentary at The US Report (see widget in right column). If I had to choose figures to trust, I’d pick The Tax Foundation over Boucher any day.

The legislation expanded in a few short days, from 900+ pages to more than 1,200. Congress hired a speed reader to bring them all up to date. Doesn’t that give you a lot of confidence?

A new market will be ripe for picking as carbon emissions are traded, and possibly manipulated. No one’s figured out the full impact of sequestering carbon—do you want it in your backyard? I don’t. The government also plans to pay companies billions not to cut trees in other countries, according to The Washington Times.

The final version of the bill is not online; the version at THOMAS is incomplete, according to The Sunlight Foundation. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) praised the bill’s sponsor Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.)[Photo top right] as a “virtuoso” when it comes to legislation. Pelosi may one day be credited as bringing the ‘Nancy State’ to the US with subsequent reductions in personal liberty and income for many of us.

Southern states like Florida will be hard hit by costs associated with the government’s latest scheme to create a financial bubble.

Florida taxpayers, we’re about to get fleeced by a Cap and Trade bill few in Congress have read. Remember that when you cast a vote in the next election. It’s time Democratic voters do the housecleaning GOP voters have been doing.
