The Tallahassee Police Dept. has created a new Website in hopes of doing something about the ever-present gangs in Florida. The Website Mega-Fi is interactive--you listen as citizens, police officers, investigators and others talk about gangs and explain what you can do as a citizen. Hand signs, the wearing of colors, tats and graffiti often indicate the presence of gangs in a neighborhood. In Tallahassee, 18 gangs are confirmed. One of the most striking individuals who speaks out on the Website is named Doc. He left a gang, and answers questions about why he joined. One reason he gave was that he was raised by a single parent and male influencers were gang members. The Website is, I think, a great idea. Hearing Doc explain his own experiences and listening to others may let young men know there are better options.
