Shoppers at open air malls in Florida urged to use caution because of abductions, murders

Several media reports claim authorities are sending warnings to some Florida shopping centers because of the suspect many are calling "The Mall Killer." Abductions and murders at Town Center Boca Raton Mall have raised alarms because the suspect is still at large. Jacksonville TV station WJXT claims, "...law enforcement authorities have sent warnings to other open-air Florida shopping centers, including the St. Johns Town Center [Jacksonville].

Shoppers are urged to be aware of their surroundings. Shoppers can take precautions like checking to see who is in the area around their car and locking doors before securing a child in his or her car seat. A mother and her daughter were killed in the early afternoon in one incident at the Boca Raton mall, and many other shoppers were in the area because the incident occurred in busy weeks before Christmas. The USA Today Weekend site provides an article with self-defense tips.
