Super Bowl XLII best ever as Florida troll sends the NY Giants luck

As Super Bowl Sunday neared, I knew I had to do something. I really (really) wanted the NY Giants to win. So I turned to my trusty troll. The troll is a custom my best friend Val and I came up with when we team up to play cards with our husbands. Val and I are the all-time Canasta champs. We owe some of that to our lucky trolls. I admit I’m superstitious. I grew up in the South, and being superstitious is a time-honored tradition. I also confess the troll occupies a position of importance in my office. How else could I survive as a freelance writer all these years?

So I set up my little green man where he could see the TV. My family, especially my younger daughter thought I’d gone a short ways off the deep end, but they thought I was a little eccentric to begin with so not much loss in respect was suffered. I explained that if I rolled the troll multiple times, he was sending mystical waves out for a turnover. Sailing him in the air like a model airplane meant time for a touchdown. I’m keeping the rest of my codes secret. Meanwhile, we cooked burgers, cut a special Super Bowl cake, and had a little wine.

The commercials for Super Bowl never fail to please, and the Gatorade commercial was our favorite mainly because of that fine looking Labrador. For a full explanation, read my column at Beneath the Brand.

By the time Eli Manning sailed the final pass securing the decisive touchdown, we were all so wired we weren’t even sleepy. So we walked outside and shot off the Skyscraper, a firework that makes lots of sparks, noise and whistles without leaving the ground. My hat’s off to the network, the sports organizations, the coaches and players for delivering the most riveting Super Bowl ever. In addition, Jordin Sparks amazed when she sang our national anthem. May next year’s be as exciting as this one.

I’m thinking about letting the NY Giants know they had an active, supernatural advocate down here in Florida. Then again, they also had Eli and Tyree, and that proved pretty supernatural in itself. (by Kay B. Day, Feb. 4, 2008)
